Are you a Caring Kid?
Do you sometimes hate going to school? Well, who doesn't? But what if you were never able to go to school at all? If you want help other kids, who by no fault of their own may never have the opportunity to go to school like you.... Then Join our Caring Kids Club! Thousands of children in Guatemala are not able to attend school and some children need to work as young as 6 years old to help out their families and some unfortunately sometimes find themselves without a home. They do not have big birthday parties with lots of presents, soccer tournaments, and most often are not able to go to school and work towards a better life. You can help make a difference in the lives of these children. All kids participating in our Caring Kids Club receive a certificate honoring your contribution and this can also be used to earn community service hours from your school or youth program. Most importantly, you'll have pride in knowing you've made a difference in a child's life. Check out some of our Caring Kids below and prepare to be inspired! SIGN UP TO BE A CARING KID! |
In 2011 Talia and Olivia, two caring motivated girls from the Berkshire region of Massachusetts started their toothbrush collection program called "Smiles 4 the Future" to help the Guatemala Aid Fund efforts. They had hoped to collect a few hundred toothbrushes, by asking local dentists if they would donate them to the Guatemala Aid Fund, and they collected 1,500!
From their flyer: "We are collecting toothbrushes and toothpaste for children that don’t have things as simple as toothbrushes. Healthy teeth and gums are an important part of a lifelong smile. That’s why our project is "Smiles 4 the Future". We would love to find as many of these supplies as possible. We feel very lucky that we have enough to help these kids now and in the future." Thank you Talia and Olivia! We are so proud of you and thank you for your committment to help others. Your supplies were recieved December 20, 2011 at the Dental Hospital and two homes for children! |

Congratulate Benjamin Landry on his Generousity
After winning a pot of money during an intense game of Left-Center-Right at a recent family holiday gathering, Benjamin Landry (13) of Natick, Massachusetts, decided to donate his winnings to a worthy cause - the Guatemala Aid Fund!
“I think the GAF can use the money way better than I could,” said Benjamin. “My parents have donated to the GAF over the years and I wanted to do the same.”
We want to thank Benjamin for his generosity and thinking of helping others with his winnings! Children learn these great qualities from their parents and others they respect in their community. Congratulations to the Landry's for raising this great Caring Kid!

Many Ways to HelpWe've been so impressed by the many ways kids have raised funds to help children in Guatemala. Following are a few ideas to get you started. Let us know if you'd like to participate. You'll be glad you did!
Coin collection: Start a COIN CAMPAIGN Put a jar on the counter and ask family members to support your fund raising efforts by throwing loose change in the jar or challenge your family or friends to see who can fill their jar first. Here is the link to the print out to put on your JAR. Collect used equipment: Collect used skates, bikes, skis, bats, balls, etc., and have a sports equipment sale! This has turned out to be a good source of funds for GAF! Maybe your school will join in! Share your special day: At your next birthday, bar mitzvah or holiday, consider asking your friends to donate the money they may have spent on a gift to the Guatemala Aid Fund. We'll send the kids in Guatemala a card from you saying how you are sharing your birthday with them. Lemonade stand: Have a lemonade stand and/or craft or bake sale and donate the money you raise. Yard sale: Host a yard sale. Check with the neighbors to see if they have anything to donate. Work for donations: Do yard work, pet sitting or window washing for your neighbors and ask for donations for the Guatemala Aid Fund. Make sure to tell your donors about our programs and the important role you have in helping make life a little better for a child in Guatemala. An activity challenge: Do a challenging bike ride, hike, or other activity and ask for sponsors and donate the money you collect. Challenge family members or friends to donate a certain amount for the number of minutes you can jump rope! eBay Giving Works: Thinking about selling those old baseball cards or Wii games on eBay? Donate a percentage of the sale to the Guatemala Aid Fund through eBay's Giving Works program. Just select us as the charity. Supply collection: Look at our Amazon Wish List for what is needed. |
"I realize how blessed I am and that now is the time for me to give back." 2014
That's how 15 year-old Kimberly sums up her decision to fund raise for Guatemala Aid Fund. Fundraising is not new to Kimberly, but this year the Guatemalan-born high school student chose to celebrate her Quinceanera by raising money for Guatemalan children and families in need. She approached friends to collect used sports equipment, which were then sold on consignment with the funds going to support Guatemala Aid Fund programs. She also saved one third of the allowance she receives for doing chores around the house. She wanted to donate the money to a program that supports Guatemalan children and families, so on the day of her Quinceanera, she proudly made a donation to Guatemala Aid Fund. Kimberly raised enough money to support a child for an entire year! Bless you and thank you for helping others Kimberly! Learn about Guatemala
