Indegenous Land Preservation, Forest & Habitat Management and Protection Project
(preliminary work in progress, funding needed for work and scholarships)
Over arching goal to purchase and forever protect the entire 60 acre piece of land that includes 3 active Mayan ceremonial sites, native habitat, stone formations of archaeological significance and endangered native forested land.
ative lands are rapidly being lost for commercial and chemically based agriculture, fire wood and luxury vacation homes. The Association to Eradication Poverty that we have teamed with has an opportunity to save this beautiful mountainside natural habitat forever! We are hoping to purchase the entire piece of indigenous property and implement a plan to keep it in its natural state forever.
This project included at first the purchase of 4 acres of land for the Community Center from a native Guatemalan Family that was committed to not selling their 60-acre natural property to foreign developers for luxury homes or for clear-cutting for agriculture. The natural habitat and land preservation plan is a long-term project for 56 acres of the 60 acre parcel . When funds can be raised to purchase the remainder of the property it will be preserved forever as a natural area with open access to the indigenous population forever. The local team is currently clearing paths and preserving and maintaining access to 3 active Mayan ceremonial sites, and rock formations of geologic significance. The plan is for the entire property behind the community center to be maintained in its natural mountain environmental state with a permanent dedication to preserve this land of native peoples, animals, and natural places.
We are thrilled to be part of their project! Join us!

An unbelievable added Preservation and Cultural benefit of this Project:
The land they selected to purchase includes native vegetation and gardening areas to be preserved. A larger adjacent lot includes centuries old Indigenous Religious Sites and significant archaeological sites that are currently unprotected . They hope to purchase this lot in the future and to preserve it as a native Wildlife & Habitat Protection Area as well as providing permanent protection and maintenance of the ceremonial sites and stone formations.

We are super excited to be almost completed with the building construction of the Guatemalan designed and managed Solola Indigenous Community Center Project! This incredible life changing, community supported project includes a much needed medical clinic, library, school drop-out prevention and Malnutrition prevention programs, as well as Protective Housing. When completed this center will support families, the land the community and needy children stay healthy, with jobs and futures in their own country. . The programs that provide job training, education, and jobs for the local young adults and adults are focused on sustainability and maintaining the indigenous practices and culture.
Based on Fatima's success in creating a sustainable home and learning center environment with educational outreach, psychological and medical care in Guatemala City, they created the Association to Eradicate Poverty and began a pilot program in rural Solola in 2017. Out of the successful Pilot program came this community based project for the indigenous community in that area that cannot access support that is available in the City.
The Guatemala Aid Fund (GAF) is in full support of this multi-phased project. Their plans are in direct alignment with the GAF core goals that not only prioritize the education and care of children, young adults and adults, but also for training and hiring the local work force, preserving the natural environment, and providing life skills for the children as they grow while implementing and teaching sustainable operational practices. Staff and children will maintain their indigenous language, culture, and learn sustainable Guatemalan agricultural techniques/organic gardening and farming, as well as modern sustainable practices like water filtering and re-use for health and conservation.

Nuritional Support Program to end Malnutrition |
School Drop Out Prevention Program |
![]() As a result of deep poverty, close to 50% of the children in rural Guatemala suffer from malnutrition. This is source of many problems that occur throughout their life. To combat this , in 2015 Fatima's formed the Association to Eradicate Poverty and the problems such as malnutrition that go with it. The nutrition pilot program and school drop-out prevention program were both started in 2018 to track the effects of better nutrition on children's health, growth, attention in school, grades and attendance. Children can "earn" food, school supplies, clothes and toys for their families with consistent school attendance and good grades.
