An unbelievable added Preservation and Cultural benefit of this Project:
The land they selected to purchase includes native vegetation and gardening areas to be preserved. A larger adjacent lot includes centuries old Indigenous Religious Sites and significant archaeological sites that are currently unprotected . They hope to purchase this lot in the future and to preserve it as a native Wildlife & Habitat Protection Area as well as providing permanent protection and maintenance of the ceremonial sites and stone formations.

We are super excited to be back under construction with the new Guatemalan designed and managed Solola Community Center Project with a medical clinic, library, after-school and nutritional support program and Child Protective Housing. When completed this center will support needy children as well as providing on the job training, education, and jobs for the local young adults and adults.
Based on Fatima's success in creating a sustainable home and learning center environment with educational outreach, psychological and medical care in Guatemala City, they created a pilot program in rural Solola. Out of the successful Pilot program came this community based project for the indigenous community in that area that cannot access support that is available in the City.
The Guatemala Aid Fund (GAF) is in full support of this multi-phased project. Their plans are in direct alignment with the GAF core goals that not only prioritize the education and care of children, young adults and adults, but also for training and hiring the local work force, preserving the natural environment, and providing life skills for the children as they grow while implementing and teaching sustainable operational practices. Staff and children will maintain their indigenous language, culture, and learn sustainable Guatemalan agricultural techniques/organic gardening and farming, as well as modern sustainable practices like water filtering and re-use for health and conservation.
This project included at first the purchase of 3 acres of land for the Community Center and facilities from a Guatemalan Family that was committed to not selling their 60-acre natural property to foreign developers for luzury homes or for clear= cutting for agriculture. The natural habitat and land preservation plan is a long-term project for 56 acres of the 60 acre parcel . When funds can be raised to purchase the remainder of the property it will be preserved forever as a natural area. The local team is currently clearing paths and preserving and maintaining access to active Mayan ceremonial sites, and rock formations of geologic significance. The plan is for the entire property behind the community center to be maintained in its natural mountain environmental state with a permanent dedication to preserve this land of native peoples, animals, and natural places.
We are thrilled to be part of their project!
Thank you for being a part of this!
We are super grateful and please know that 100% of your donation goes directly to Guatemala!
