Luz De Fatima Orphanage
The Luz De Fatima Orphanage is run by Barbara Cofino with much help from her son Pedro de Leon. Barbara used to work as an adoption attorney and the fees she received through adoption were used to run the orphanage which also cares for children who are in legal limbo or becoming declared abandoned by the courts. She also works with older girls to help them receive an education while living in a family environment. Their hopes are to open a private high school where the tuition from the day students would to help sustain an expanded orphanage which would care for 100 children. They currently have the land to build this school and it has the benefit of being in a village area that would enable many more children to attend school as they would otherwise have to travel to Guatemala City. They currently do not have the funds to sustain the existing orphanage or to expand their efforts for the high school. We hope to provide support to this orphanage and to reach out in a wider effort to find supporters for the larger high school project. The children in this orphanage are so well cared for with many services such as physical therapy, education and medical attention, however, they are in desperate needs of funds to survive.
